What is the difference between a retainer and a mouth appliance?

i lost my bottom appliance and i was looking for pictures of appliance and retainers and they seem different hope you can help me :)|||Look up the ones for the bottom arch from the pictures for the appliance (usually you have an active component in the appliance):

Reatiners sit only passively without any active component exerting pressure:

Whats the point of a Herbst appliance when you could just use elastics?

im getting a herbst appliance in a month and I dont want to have that I want to have elastics?

my overbite is not even big at all its about 3mm?|||i didnt want my herbst appliance and still dont want it (well i got it 2 days ago) its extremly hard to eat and you may lose a few pounds. its funny because you dont have as much freedom in your mouth and your kinda sore, but dont worry becuase it'll help wayyyyyy more than elastics, trust me i've tried them. i had a horrible overbite. i look so much better. enjoy it, im not saying you'll love it because i dont lie but you'll look fabulous when they take it off, everyone will think its unique and envy you =)|||Your overbite and my overbite appear to be similar and they have pretty much fixed mine with elastics, however I'm also an adult... which might be part of the issue. Adults tend to be more compliant with treatment and a Herbst appliance is something you will not be able to take out. Elastics break easily and require that they be changed multiple times a day, which not all teenagers are willing to do. They can also use a Herbst without having braces attached to all of your teeth (I have seen this done in a child I worked with at summer camp a few years back).|||Ha, good luck to you, the herbst appliance looks really ugly and you aren't going to be able to stretch your mouth too far open. Enjoy your big mouthed freedom while you can, its not coming off :D

Good luck with your braces! Straight smiles forever...

Good appliance for keeping cheese warm and melted?

I really enjoy tortilla chips with nacho cheese. However, the cheese gets cold fast and gets hard. Does anyone know an appliance or something that will keep whatever I put in there good and warm? Whether it be cheese or whatever I think of? Would a fondu pot work? Any ideas?|||Yup. You should get a fondue pot .... they work wonders! I got both of mine at wal-mart and use it at least once a week.

I to lick to use it for nachos and cheese so I have this one that I use specifically for that since it has a wider top than others. The only thing with this is I have to use a small extension cord sometimes cuz the cord isn't that long.

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?o鈥?/a>|||a crock pot get one that has more setting then low mid high it will cost a littele more but you can cook so much more in it get a cook book and start you will find you can do a lot with one|||Yes, a fondue pot would work great, but I've also had great success with using a crockpot to keep nacho cheese heated up, as well.|||They make little tiny crockpots intended to keep things like that warm. You should be able to find one at any place that sells small appliances. A fondue pot would work too.|||yes, a fondu pot is made for that purpose, a small crock pot might work too.

What are the best foods to start with when a child has just had an orthodontic appliance installed?

7 yr. old has just had an appliance installed that will spread her upper level of teeth apart, and stop tongue thrusting and thumb sucking. Everything gets stuck and gooey in the appliance. She's not a happy camper!!|||If she just got it today or yesterday she's probably having some pain with it as well as trying to get used to it. The dentist probably told you she could have children's Motrin to ease the pain and it really does help. Also cold things have a numbing effect and tend to ease the pain. It won't become an everyday thing, but for now, ice cream, popsicles, smoothies all seem to help with the discomfort. She can probably have hearty soups that don't need a lot of chewing. Also scrambled eggs, pasta's (over cooked for less chewing) stuffed baked potato's, macaroni and cheese. There are a lot of foods I'm sure she likes that will be easier for her to eat. But for a few days I would advise the colder foods for the extra numbing comfort for her mouth. Later when she's back to normal, remember to cut her foods up in bite size pieces rather than trying to take bites from pizza and sandwiches. The tongue thrust appliance is a little harder to get used to, but she will given time. Hope I've given you some ideas to help her through this time. Good luck and keep reminding her how beautiful she will look when it's all over with!|||happened with my daughter a lot too with her palate expander.

have her eat soups and such. she'll get used to it and learn how to deal with it.|||Okay, I had braces on and then a retainer--I know that feeling very well. You want soft foods like rice, and grapes, and jello.

What's the name of the other end of an electrical appliance?

You know. Almost every electrical appliance has a cord. And the end of that cord plugs into either an electrical socket or in the end of an extension cord. What's the thing called? (it's the thing that kind of looks like a face, and it sticks out lol)|||Well, er, gosh, uh, the male plug with the hard extended uh, prongs ? found on the end of an electrical chord is carefully aligned and , uh, you know, er, you firmly insert it , well, like into the slots of a , oh gosh , of a , er kinda like the female receptacle ? When you ah, flick the er, switch, and everything gets , aw shucks, like kinda turned on ? if ya know what I mean ?|||It is called a "cord end". A plug or a receptacle on the end of a cord is called a female or male cord end when listed in catalogs and hardware lists.|||The electricians call it 'plug pin'|||plug

.|||...a plug.

Hair appliance that combines straightener and curling hot iron?

I've seen this on infomercial before, but i forgot what it is called. It looks like a straightening iron, but it is actually a hot curling iron with a side a comb next to it, so when you curl you hair, it helps you to smooth/straighten out your hair as well. You can't find it in drug store, it's not cheap as well, does anybody know the name of this appliance?|||It's called the instyler.|||It's the InStyler.

How do you install an appliance replacement cord on dishwasher?

I have a small dishwasher that has a green, black and white wire. The appliance replacement cord has 1 green wire and then 2 grey wires. Does it matter when I connect the two grey wires to the black and white? Will this cause issues? or does it not matter when you hook up to the black and white?|||no it doesnt matter|||There is a serious reason for the different colors. It could blow a fuse if you do it wrong. Why not call the manufacturer, look in the yellow pages for appliances, and call them. Of course everyone wants to make a 'buck', so they may want to send their repair man out to you.

Blow a fuse and make it worthwhile.|||Keep the green ones together, the other two don't matter.

(turn power off first)|||the green is the ground. the gray wires could be interchanged and it will work but if the plug is polarized (one prong wider than the other) than the proper hookup would be: the black wire of the dishwasher would attach to the wire that is from the side of the plug with the narrower of the flat prongs and the wider of the flat prongs would be hooked to the white wire on the dishwasher and the center is the ground
