What is the difference between a retainer and a mouth appliance?

i lost my bottom appliance and i was looking for pictures of appliance and retainers and they seem different hope you can help me :)|||Look up the ones for the bottom arch from the pictures for the appliance (usually you have an active component in the appliance):

Reatiners sit only passively without any active component exerting pressure:

Whats the point of a Herbst appliance when you could just use elastics?

im getting a herbst appliance in a month and I dont want to have that I want to have elastics?

my overbite is not even big at all its about 3mm?|||i didnt want my herbst appliance and still dont want it (well i got it 2 days ago) its extremly hard to eat and you may lose a few pounds. its funny because you dont have as much freedom in your mouth and your kinda sore, but dont worry becuase it'll help wayyyyyy more than elastics, trust me i've tried them. i had a horrible overbite. i look so much better. enjoy it, im not saying you'll love it because i dont lie but you'll look fabulous when they take it off, everyone will think its unique and envy you =)|||Your overbite and my overbite appear to be similar and they have pretty much fixed mine with elastics, however I'm also an adult... which might be part of the issue. Adults tend to be more compliant with treatment and a Herbst appliance is something you will not be able to take out. Elastics break easily and require that they be changed multiple times a day, which not all teenagers are willing to do. They can also use a Herbst without having braces attached to all of your teeth (I have seen this done in a child I worked with at summer camp a few years back).|||Ha, good luck to you, the herbst appliance looks really ugly and you aren't going to be able to stretch your mouth too far open. Enjoy your big mouthed freedom while you can, its not coming off :D

Good luck with your braces! Straight smiles forever...

Good appliance for keeping cheese warm and melted?

I really enjoy tortilla chips with nacho cheese. However, the cheese gets cold fast and gets hard. Does anyone know an appliance or something that will keep whatever I put in there good and warm? Whether it be cheese or whatever I think of? Would a fondu pot work? Any ideas?|||Yup. You should get a fondue pot .... they work wonders! I got both of mine at wal-mart and use it at least once a week.

I to lick to use it for nachos and cheese so I have this one that I use specifically for that since it has a wider top than others. The only thing with this is I have to use a small extension cord sometimes cuz the cord isn't that long.

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?o鈥?/a>|||a crock pot get one that has more setting then low mid high it will cost a littele more but you can cook so much more in it get a cook book and start you will find you can do a lot with one|||Yes, a fondue pot would work great, but I've also had great success with using a crockpot to keep nacho cheese heated up, as well.|||They make little tiny crockpots intended to keep things like that warm. You should be able to find one at any place that sells small appliances. A fondue pot would work too.|||yes, a fondu pot is made for that purpose, a small crock pot might work too.

What are the best foods to start with when a child has just had an orthodontic appliance installed?

7 yr. old has just had an appliance installed that will spread her upper level of teeth apart, and stop tongue thrusting and thumb sucking. Everything gets stuck and gooey in the appliance. She's not a happy camper!!|||If she just got it today or yesterday she's probably having some pain with it as well as trying to get used to it. The dentist probably told you she could have children's Motrin to ease the pain and it really does help. Also cold things have a numbing effect and tend to ease the pain. It won't become an everyday thing, but for now, ice cream, popsicles, smoothies all seem to help with the discomfort. She can probably have hearty soups that don't need a lot of chewing. Also scrambled eggs, pasta's (over cooked for less chewing) stuffed baked potato's, macaroni and cheese. There are a lot of foods I'm sure she likes that will be easier for her to eat. But for a few days I would advise the colder foods for the extra numbing comfort for her mouth. Later when she's back to normal, remember to cut her foods up in bite size pieces rather than trying to take bites from pizza and sandwiches. The tongue thrust appliance is a little harder to get used to, but she will given time. Hope I've given you some ideas to help her through this time. Good luck and keep reminding her how beautiful she will look when it's all over with!|||happened with my daughter a lot too with her palate expander.

have her eat soups and such. she'll get used to it and learn how to deal with it.|||Okay, I had braces on and then a retainer--I know that feeling very well. You want soft foods like rice, and grapes, and jello.

What's the name of the other end of an electrical appliance?

You know. Almost every electrical appliance has a cord. And the end of that cord plugs into either an electrical socket or in the end of an extension cord. What's the thing called? (it's the thing that kind of looks like a face, and it sticks out lol)|||Well, er, gosh, uh, the male plug with the hard extended uh, prongs ? found on the end of an electrical chord is carefully aligned and , uh, you know, er, you firmly insert it , well, like into the slots of a , oh gosh , of a , er kinda like the female receptacle ? When you ah, flick the er, switch, and everything gets , aw shucks, like kinda turned on ? if ya know what I mean ?|||It is called a "cord end". A plug or a receptacle on the end of a cord is called a female or male cord end when listed in catalogs and hardware lists.|||The electricians call it 'plug pin'|||plug

.|||...a plug.

Hair appliance that combines straightener and curling hot iron?

I've seen this on infomercial before, but i forgot what it is called. It looks like a straightening iron, but it is actually a hot curling iron with a side a comb next to it, so when you curl you hair, it helps you to smooth/straighten out your hair as well. You can't find it in drug store, it's not cheap as well, does anybody know the name of this appliance?|||It's called the instyler.|||It's the InStyler.

How do you install an appliance replacement cord on dishwasher?

I have a small dishwasher that has a green, black and white wire. The appliance replacement cord has 1 green wire and then 2 grey wires. Does it matter when I connect the two grey wires to the black and white? Will this cause issues? or does it not matter when you hook up to the black and white?|||no it doesnt matter|||There is a serious reason for the different colors. It could blow a fuse if you do it wrong. Why not call the manufacturer, look in the yellow pages for appliances, and call them. Of course everyone wants to make a 'buck', so they may want to send their repair man out to you.

Blow a fuse and make it worthwhile.|||Keep the green ones together, the other two don't matter.

(turn power off first)|||the green is the ground. the gray wires could be interchanged and it will work but if the plug is polarized (one prong wider than the other) than the proper hookup would be: the black wire of the dishwasher would attach to the wire that is from the side of the plug with the narrower of the flat prongs and the wider of the flat prongs would be hooked to the white wire on the dishwasher and the center is the ground

How to get a fixed appliance out of your mouth?

I have a so called appliance in my lower mouth. It has two rings that are glued to my back molars, with a wire that wraps around the inside of my lower teeth. The wire is connected to the rings. The wire snapped and is now stabbing the back of my tongue and i don't no how to get it out.|||go to the orthodontist to cut out the wire ASAP

How does X10 Appliance Module let the controlled object control the switch?

I have my TV plugged into an X10 Appliance Module which I can control from a remote control to turn the TV off. That works for turning the TV off and on. However, you can also Turn the TV set off and when you turn it back on, the X10 Appliance Module re-switches to ON.

I wouldn't think that the TV that is plugged into the module could switch the module. How is that happening?|||The module attempts to send a trickle of current through the plugged-in appliance even when "off". It notices the sequence (1) no current (2) current flow and applies full power when that happens.

I have been wanting a crock pot for a long time but am terrified of leaving an appliance on all day?

I would love to be able to come home from work and my dinner already cooked. Leaving food cooking unattended frightens me, and leaving an appliance on for long periods of time while i am not home also frightens me. Should i be worried or should i just go ahead and get one?|||its the best thing in the world. i felt exactly the same thing.. what i did was one day while i was home i left it on just to see if it would do anything and it didnt.|||i have had one for years and i have not had any trouble

it is pretty safe to have

and as long as its on low

your food will not burn|||Crock pots are actually quite safe. I've never heard of a case where they caused a house fire or something. Naturally you don't want to take chances and leave something flammable around an appliance that gets hot or leave it plugged in when you aren't using it, but most of the heat is on the inside parts of the pot.

It is smart of you to be concerned about leaving cooking food unattended, but you should be fine as long as you don't leave the pot on "high" when the recipe calls for the "low" setting.|||I was terrified at first too. I have one and it is great. I do leave it on all day long, on LOW, to come home to lots of great things. But, I understand your fear. I still have the creeping fear that the plug will catch fire and my condo will burn down while I'm at work.

This has OBVIOUSLY never happened. Crockpots are actually quite safe! I've done it 100s of times and my fears have never come true.

Maybe start out slow. Make something and come back 3 hours later.

Then make something and come back 6 hours later.

Then, work your way up to how long you are gone all day.

Meats work well if you have enough liquid and its on LOW, for 8 hours.|||I LOVE mine!!! I am weird about leaving appliances on, but I do use my crock pot. Just make sure you set it on a heatproof surface, because I have heard it can crack Corian... (use a large trivet if you need to), keep it away from other items such as plastic, paper, etc., and keep it out from the wall and away from under cabinets.

The first time you use it, use it on a day when you are off work and plan to stay home. You will be able to reassure yourself that it really is safe and a WONDERFUL kitchen asset.

I use mine 2-3 times per week, and leave it on for 9-10 hours. I have a traditional one from approximately 1990 as well as a digital one. I do prefer the digital one, but I use them both all the time.|||People do it all the time. Crock pots are

designed especially for that. And are very

low voltage, so no excess heat to worry

about. Just what's supposed to be there.

But why don't get one and try it out on a

weekend while you're home anyway. Just

to get over the fear factor. They really worth

the investment. So get a good one.|||Get a crock pot. They are very safe. The appliances that you need to worry about are coffee pots mainly. Anything with a cord compromised or where outlets are overloaded are potential fire hazards. I never leave my small appliances plugged in when not in use.|||you should deinatly get one! my family eats a crock pot meal at least once or twice a week, theyre great for days when you have a lot of things to do, and not a lot of time to make dinner|||Best thing in the world is a slow cooker / crock pot Get one that bears the good house keeping seal of approval. These products have been tested and are guaranteed by good house keeping.

http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/product-鈥?/a>|||Don't worry about a crock pot...

Many people leave crock pots, coffee makers and rice cookers (similar products) all day without any problems.

With a crock pot, you don't boil off the liquid that fast so there's nothing to burn... In theory, the crock pot can't go any higher than 212F.

Also, the power consumption used by a crock pot can range from anywhere from 100 Watts to 300 Watts. One to three light bulbs... Think e-z bake oven... lol.

Don't worry and go get one.

Your neighbor has probably been happily using a crock pot while you've been too afraid to. :)

What is considered an "appliance" in a rental house?

I had to call a repairman into repair the burglar alarm, since the landlord did not respond to my letter requesting the needed repair. The landlord refuses to pay the charges, as the alarm is not considered an "appliance". The alarm has been a part of the house since we began renting(was pre-installed) and I maintained that it was a part of the whole house from the start, and is considered a part of the whole rental package. What does the Landlord-Tenant Act state about items as an alarm and how it relates to the Landlords responsibility to maintain?|||The alarm is considered an amenity (as is a dishwasher and air conditioning).. not a necessity like a stove %26amp; refrigerator. Unless it specifically states in the lease that the landlord is required to maintain the alarm system throughout occupancy then you're responsible for the cost of fixing the alarm (and the landlord gets it fixed for free).

Ps. A microwave is also an amenity in this case.|||Microwave, fridge, stove... |||It's considered an amenity, and not a requirement of habitability. Therefore you get stuck paying for the repair bill. You might have gotten away with what you did had the repair been for the range or the refrigerator, but NOT for a security alarm.|||A burglar alarm is non-essential. Perhaps one of the previous tenants had installed it and he just left it up. Unless it states otherwise in the lease, I don't think he has any obligation to replace it.|||An alarm is not an appliance..

How long will it take for a twin block appliance to work?

ive had this removable brace thing called twin block appliance for a few weeks, the ortho told me it can take up to a year for it to work, but someone else that i know had it in for only two months.. how long will it normally take for it to work?|||Doesn't really matter, someone from Al Qaeda Airlines will probably crash into it and bring the whole lot down.....|||I'm not sure.

Just asking, how can you wear these. I had them and wore them for like a month, but the pain was getting too sore.

I think they would take about a month though. Not sure|||No onger than six months~~

Is it normal for a plug on an appliance to become very warm while in use?

If not, is it more likely a problem with the appliance or the outlet?|||Never use an extension cord with an appliance that uses a lot of power as you risk using a cord that is not rated properly and it will heat up. If you must use an extension cord, but one that greatly exceeds the max power requirements of the device. These extension cords are VERY expensive, but worth it. Sometimes they are sold as "air conditioner" extension cords, and are 6' long, so you can just buy what you need. Its very important to have the shortest cord possible as regardless of the wires gauge, the longer the cord, the less power it can take.

When you buy an appliance, be careful that they did not make it too cheap by using a cord that is too short and not rated high enough. Look for the UL Mark on the cord.|||If it's got one of the little boxes, yes. If it's just a regular old plug, no. That's a little scary.|||no, warm wires are a sign of potential trouble. plug other appliances in the same recepticle/plug and see if they get hot. if they do have some check the amount of voltage and/or amperage to determine if the device is over the 15/20 voltage it is intended to carry.|||Some do become very warm %26amp; it will depend on the appliance being used. We have some portable electric heaters were the plug %26amp; cord will become very warm when it's on the maximum setting of 1500 watts and on for long periods of time. I have seen the plugs on those same heaters overheat and short circuit too after months of use because the plug was not strong enough to carry the load well. If I was you I'd keep a very close eye on it while using the appliance and not use it at all at night while asleep. When I see that sort of thing I always replace the plug with a better %26amp; stronger one.

Submit the same question again with the description of the appliance %26amp; we'll be able to give you a better answer. Or email one of us directly.|||no warm is not good. you might be over loading the circuit. to many things on the circuit breaker.

What appliance consumes the most power?

The table below shows a list of some electric appliances with the values of their potential differences and current. What appliance consumes the most power?

Appliance------Potential Difference(V)------Current(A)

A. Television 24 0.75

B. Drill 110 1.6

C. Bulb 12 4.0

D. Amplifier 110 0.2

Now, I know this is probably super easy, but my book is insanely vague. So, forgive.|||Power = volts * amps

Just multiply the V * A in each case and whichever one is highest consumes the most. It is that easy.

I'm sure you can do the math so I won't.

.|||From your list, the drill consumes the most power because the product of the voltage times the current is the highest.

However, keep in mind that the amount of power consumed is NOT the amount of energy consumed. To get the amount of energy, you must multiply the power by the time it was consuming that amount of power.|||it depends on the type and size of equipment so if you want to compare apples to apples do this divide watts as listed on equipment by voltage applied // mostly 120 volts and you get amperes of energy use // this comparision does work// as a rule the more amperes used the more energy consumed|||B...the drill...(176W).

I have a stoveand refridgerator that I want to sell, in great condition. Is there an appliance store that buys

Is there an appliance store that buys appliances around lewiston-auburn, maine?|||Even if you find one that buys used appliances, they need to resell it so you would not get even close to what it is worth. Put an ad in the paper.|||You can always put an ad in your local paper or on craigslist!

Can i use an american electrical appliance in ireland with a standard adapter?

i bought a hot tools deep waver {hair waver} electrical appliance on ebay to find when i opened it that it had an american plug. apparently i have to buy a transmitter thing that costs around 鈧?0 to make it work here ~ is this true or can i just use it with a standard adapter?|||The operating voltage will be different USA is110volts UK 220volts you will need the thing or it will blow up.|||It's a transformer, as it's a heating appliance.

Probably cheaper than 40 Euros to buy a multi-voltage (110/240v) one in Ireland and use it there with the attached 3 pin plug.Best to buy a plug adaptor in Ireland to convert it to a US plug.Less hassle and cheaper.|||If the label inside says 100-240V or somethig like that, you can just use a plug adapter.

If the label says only 110-120V, you need a converter transformer or solid-state converter as well or instead of a plug converter.

How many joules is used in one hour for a 1600 watt appliance?

i had a question like this for my science hw but the teacher didnt explain. the question was to find out how many joules the particular appliance (i used an iron) used in one hour. if my iron is 1600 watts and 1 watt is 1 joule in 1 second.... how many joules is used in that one hour.... i know its very confusing but i need to know.. thank you|||1 watt second = 1 joule

since there are 3600 seconds in every hour, then

1 watt hour = 1 joule * 3600 seconds = 3600 joules

therefore

1600 watt hours = 3600 joules * 1600 watts = 5,760,000 joules

What range of Volts does the appliance need to have to work in India?

i live in the US. and i want to know what range of volts works in India. My dad said 220V but he wasn't sure.

if it is 220V does it mean that an appliance that has a range of 100-240V can work in india?

Thankss!|||all over india use 220 volt ac power|||Yes.. the range is 220 volts.. but still the appliances of lower of higher voltages can be used with the help of an adapter which you can get from any good electronics shop. It arranges the voltage as per requirements and ur appliance will work.. !!|||In India the voltages available are as follows:-

For single phase connection -- 220 VAC, 50 Hz cycle

For three phase connection -- 415 VAC, 50 Hz cycle

Milind|||Yes, they use 220v over there.

So all the devices have input marked 100 - 240V are OK.

What makes an appliance an energy star appliance?

What is the difference between an appliance classified as energy star and one that is not? What about it exactly makes it energy star?|||appliances have engery star ratings * or "C" worst energy appliance ***** or "AAA" the best energy appliance, meaning the energy efficency of the particular machine at what it's doing.|||If you Google Energy Star you will find the DOE website that defines the performance standards for each kind of appliance but generally, and energy star wastes less energy.

If you drop an electrical appliance in bucket of water, what will happen?

Besides the appliance ceasing to work, will there be any visible affect? Will it trip an ordinary residential breaker?|||It will take over current, heat up and burn

Aslo earth leakge breakler if installed will trip.

The act is dangerous, electricity may leak through wet floor and kill the person near by/|||it really depends on how much power and how complicated the device is. it could just die, smoke, blow up, or anything in between|||Well any non electronic device should still work afterwards. Hairdryers or toasters can take a beating with high current and temperature so they should survive. If the device is on at the wall socket then the circuit breaker will trip. Even if the device just gets moderately wet, it will trip after 1-10mins. Visible effects could include some flashes of light... pretty much what you see in the movies.

Explain why it is important to ensure the refrigerant in the appliance is properly disposed of.?

a. Explain why it is important to ensure the refrigerant in the appliance is properly disposed of.

b. Give an explanation you can think of why such high temperatures are necessary to treat the organic waste.

You add two solutions to the test tube just before adding the sulfuric acid. The added solutions contain molecules from two groups of organic substances. Name these two groups of organic substances.|||Refrigerants are made of freon which contain substances called chloroflourocarbons or CFCs which need to be disposed of properly. Many a time when these substances are not disposed of in the right manner they end up reacting to release chlorine atoms that result in damage to the ozone layer by depleting it.

What is a Bionator, and what is Lower Appliance Therapy?

When I get my braces next month, I will need Lower appliance therapy and possibly a bionator. Do Bionators hurt? What is Lower Appliance Therapy? Anything I should know about my braces such as when they're putting them on, when I get them on, what I should eat, etc.|||The double retainer ("bionator") covers the surface of both the upper and lower teeth and is held in place when the patient moves their lower jaw forward to bite into it. For maximum benefit, it needs to be worn for 14 hours/day for several months until the overbite is reduced. After that, it is worn only while sleeping, just like a regular retainer, in order to maintain the improvement that was achieved.

The goal is to encourage the lower jaw to grow in a more forward direction. If the upper teeth are leaning forward, it can help with this, too.

Oral Appliance Therapy involves the selection, design, fitting and use of a specially designed oral appliance that, when worn during sleep, maintains an opened, unobstructed airway in the throat. Oral appliances that treat snoring and obstructive sleep apnea are devices worn in the mouth, similar to orthodontic retainers or sports mouthguards. They have several advantages over other forms of therapy. Oral appliances are comfortable and easy to wear and care for. They are small and convenient, making them easy to carry with you when you travel. Treatment with oral appliances is reversible and non-invasive.

And only one trip to the laundromat between broken and new washing machine.

Considering the broken down crap in my house, I'd say any working appliance is a cool appliance. The only thing that would have been better would be if I could have got them in coppertone like the old ones, but apparently they stopped making those in the '70s.|||Depends on the receivers personality and mood I guess.Sometimes combined with a more personal "back up" gift, might insure a better response.

I think this is super cool.

Does the wrong power input for a voltage converter affect the appliance?

I got this waffle maker from America for use in the uk and somehow I discovered a burnout and smoke was coming out the adapter does this mean the appliance is unharmed and the adapter (which is a max of 100 w and the wafflemaker of 1200 w) took the burn out coz I unscrewed the wafflemaker to look at the circuit board and nothing was burnt|||The Wafflemaker is fine. The transformer is gone, simplt becasue you overloaded it. You need to get a converter with a transformer that can handle 1200W, or a solid state one for heating type appliances.|||The adapter is certainly wrecked

You would have to be very unlucky to damage the appliance - The input 230v is safely isolated from the output 115v in normal operation..When you destroyed it, it should 'fail safe' so that your appliance never 'sees' 230v.

I guess you know that you cannot run a 1200w appliance from a 100w adapter but very probably it is only the adapter destroyed

EDIT

Just replace the adapter with one that is powerful enough. The waffle maker is *probably* fine|||You have leaned a lesson, always check the voltage is correct for the appliance you are using, some US electrical products can be used in the UK, they have dual voltage, but always read the instructions , if its says less than 220 volts don't plug it in as it will burn out... BTW The warranty is invalid so you can't return it.|||Too much could overheat it and burn random circuits and too little wont work and still messes it up for some reason i forgot

I'm looking for a way to keep potatoes warm all day. Is there an appliance that will do that?

I need a way to keep 10 or 20 baked potatoes hot for about 4 to 6 hours per day. Is there an appliance or container that will do that?|||I used to work at a Holiday Inn... in the kitchen we had a drawer warmer. It was kept full of baked potaotes ready for the fixins... I am sure you could find one of those "hot drawers" but a commercial product and possibly expensive.

What about a bread warmer? I have an oven that has a warming drawer. You just got me thinking for the first time about using it for potatoes... I have used it for bread (rolls).|||Whenever I put on a big buffet I can put any type of covered serving dish of food on it and the food will stay warm all afternoon.

I am so curious why you have to keep your potatoes warm every day...LOL

If the baked potatoes were wrapped in foil, couldn't they just stay in the oven, say at 150 degrees and stay hot without overcooking?|||Standing holding temps for food is @ 180F. You could hold them in a slow oven and they should be fine. They are not an item you need to worry about drying out(that's if your truly baking, with foil it is technically steaming. As far as a container, anything covered will result in creating steam and will moisten and shrivel the skins. If your not serving throughout you can under cook them to ensure the skins don't get too tough.|||Might I add to the foil and cooler, heat a brick up in the oven while cooking the potatoes. (wrap it in foil first). An appliance says 0.7kW on the back, is this average or peak power consumption?

I'm normally good with electronics etc but this has always puzzled me. I want to put an appliance that says 700w on the back in my car, and i do not know if that would mean average or peak, so i need to know whether it is or not to buy the relevant (500w rms, 800w peak/ 1000w rms 1500w peak) inverter to use in my car.

It is 240v, australian.

Any simple answer? I notice normally, the back of a household appliance only has one power usage statistic so what would it be?|||I think this would be peak power. You need to know how much power the unit is drawing when it is one, not averaged over a period of time when it is cycling on and off. The information is important when you are connecting it, regardless if it is in your house on in your car. You need to know the max power draw, not some average, so you can make sure the wires and circuit breakers can handle it.|||Depends on what kind of appliance it is. Could you let me know what it is?

Cheers, Jon.|||Typically it is the average power. With something like an electric iron, it is the average power consumed when the thermostat is on.|||That would be 'average' power consumption of the unit. If not too pricy, there is a peak surge when first turned on, so I would recommend the 1500W. peak inverter!!!

A door-to-door sales person for a Household appliance has learned from her past experience that out of ten?

demonstrations of her appliance only four result in actual sales (long run average). This week she needs to make at least five sales. At least how many demonstrations does she need to perform to ensure that the probability of meeting her target is at least 90 percent?|||using a binomial calculator , for n = 17, P[%26gt;=5] = 0.8740, for n = 18, P[%26gt;=5] = 0.9058

ans: n = 18

------|||If she holds ten demonstration, she will have 4 sales. But she needs a fifth sale.

If she has fifteen demonstrations, she will have 2 more sales (4 out of 10 = 2 out of 5). So our answer is right between ten and fifteen. She can't have twelve and a half demonstrations. So does she need to do twelve or thirteen?

If she does 12 demonstrations, her success rate will be 4.8, or 4 and an 80% chance of the next sale.

That's not high enough for the word problem's conditions.

If she does 13, her success rate will be 5.2 - she will have (on average) five sales at least.

True or false: My willingness to drive downtown to save $30 on a new appliance should depend on what fraction?

True or false: Your willingness to drive downtown to save $30 on a new appliance should depend on what fraction of the total selling price $30 is. When an appliance is rated at 1500 watts, what does that mean?

I am curious as to how an appliance that is rated at 1500 watts uses electricity. Does it burn 1500 watts an hour? A minute? I posted this question because I live in an area where our local power company has hiked the rates by 50% and I'd like to understand more of how I'm being charged for my usage. Thanks in advance!!!|||Wattage is charged for by the hour. If you look at your bill, you will see how many Kilowatt hours you used. 1500 watts is a high wattage appliance. Hair dryers are one that I know of. Not something you want to use for long periods of time.|||Watts is the measure of the rate of electric POWER that the appliance uses. Your local power company sells you ENERGY that is in the form of (power) x (time), usually expressed in kWh (kilowatt-hours).

Your appliance uses 1500 watts (or 1.5 kW) of POWER. So if you use it for two hours, it will consume 3 kWh (1.5 kW x 2 hrs) of ENERGY. That's what will appear on your bill.

You can reduce the bill by either using an appliance that is rated lower (fewer than 1500 watts) or operating the appliance for less time.|||1500 watts is = to 12.5 amps if that helps

There is really nothing to be scared about. You may be able to see it in your mouth when you talk, but only very minimal unless you are showing people because your cheeks will cover up more of the appliance.

If that guy you like hasn't shown any interest in you now, then he probably doesn't like you anyway. Don't let some stinky boy get in the way of your treatment. You are going to have a BEAUTIFUL smile once your treatment is complete. Just keep that in mind and you will be fine.

Isn't chewing through the wire of an electrical appliance plugged into an outlet supposed to shock you?

Or does the appliance need to be turned on? I figured one would be shocked regardless of whether the appliance is on or off.|||If it's turned on at the wall {or if it's turned off at the wall, but the socket faceplate was badly wired up -- with the live and neutral wires reversed -- in the first place}, then you could get a shock.

However, if you chewed through the insulation on the earth or neutral wire first, *before* you got through the insulation on the live wire, your saliva would conduct enough current to trip the circuit breaker and you probably wouldn't feel very much, if anything.|||Only if it's on. If it is off there is no electricity running through it. Duh.|||For you to receive a shock, your body needs to complete the circuit. This means one part of your body touches the live wire and another part of your body (eg your feet) touch the ground. If you are wearing shoes, then the resistance that the shoe provides may not allow current to flow through you. If your shoes have little resistance or you are wearing no shoes, then you will receive a shock.

Please don't play with live electrical wires unless you are very sure of where you are going in the after-life.|||There are appliances that hold residual current in them (TVs or computer CRT screens) so in theory you could get a shock even if the appliance is not plugged-in it just depends on the potential for the current to flow.

Which appliance uses the most energy and as a result would produce the most carbon dioxide?

I am trying to find this out for homework but im finding it hard to figure out what produces the most carbon dioxide in my house. if anyone knows an appliance that use alot of carbon dioxide it will be a great help. thankyou|||Check the power rating of the equipment. The higher the rating the higher is the carbon dioxide production. For example a simple high efficiency light power rating is 40 watts but a Refrigerator has a power rating of about 150 watts. A water heater has 3000Watts and a washing machine has 700 watts. TV has 200 watts (old TVs). The rating multiplied by the hours you use will be the amount of power you consume which is directly proportional to the Co2 generated. From this you will know that Refrigerator and air cn would be a great source of electric consumption. Even though their rating is lower the hrs of its operations make it one of the equipment which causes a lot of CO2 generation. From the number you may point that heater is a culprit but we use it only for 10 to 20 minutes and hence on a daily basis they don't add up to a great amount. Hope this helps.|||Hi any appliance that boils water eg your hot water system only if it's electrical powered, even your electric kettle. The power generated is usually coal powered steam turbine creating electricity thus carbon emission. In Australia the government is trying to cut out electric hot water systems buy giving rebates to home owners for solar hot water systems.

Note No 5 in the link.|||Anything that produces heat; water heater, oven, toaster, dryer, incandescent light bulbs... The more heat they produce, the more power they use.|||this is highly dependent on your lifestyle.

since heating water is so energy intensive, water heater is a very good guess.

if you live in Iceland, not to worry.

clearly how much time your computer is turned on, how much time your TV is on, how much your air conditioner is on (ie how hot it is), are all important, as is how much heating you do in the winter.

if i had to just guess, it'd be water heater, then light bulbs (as a group), then air conditioner.

Physics: How can a lightning bolt create a current in electric appliance?

How can a lightning bolt produce a current in the circuit of an electrical appliance, even when the lightning does not directly strike the appliance?

Lights dim when any electrical appliance is used?

The lights in our house dim whenever an electrical appliance is switched on. This is particularly noticeable when the electric shower (9kw) is used, resulting for example in the microwave loosing at least half its power if being run at the same time as the shower.|||There is a possibility that you need to tighten the terminal screws where your feeders enter your circuit breaker panel. If you have a resistance at this point, it will drop the voltage substantially at that point of resistance when a relatively large load comes on the line..

This must be done by an electrician because there is normally no disconnect ahead of this connection point, at least not in the US.|||Roy, I assume you are a UK resident. You do not say if you are in town or rural so it is difficult to state the exact cause. As the voltage drop affects the lights when the shower is on I must assume that the voltage drop is in the supply conductors to the house. If these belong to the utility then they may need to replace them as the maximum voltage drop permitted in the UK is 10% + or - 230V. If you are supplied on a sub main cable not owned by the utility, this will need to be made larger. Consult an electrician.|||consuming electricity.

Is it okay to use a outlet adapter for a large appliance that uses 120 volts, 15 amps?

I have only two-prong outlets in the room I need it in, but the plugs are both three-prongs. Is it okay to use an outlet adapter for this? The appliance is an infrared sauna.|||Ideally you should get your outlet updated by an electrician, who could also assess the condition of the wiring.

As already suggested, you need to attach the prong on the adapter to the wall plate screw. But you still don't "know" that it is grounded. Hardware stores will have little test plugs that will verify that the adapted outlet has a ground. They run $5 to $15 - get one. Check out your outlet, if the indicating light patterns say its ok, you are done, enjoy your dry sauna. If they indicate a problem, you now know you really need an electrician.

(And you aren't out $5 to $15 either, you can use that to check other outlets in the future, bring it when you look at other homes/apts,condo's, etc..)|||IF YOU are good at following direction, just buy a G.F.I. recep . If you buy at a lowes, home depot, menards, etc; the cost will be 10./20 $ you can install these in place of a 2 or 3 prong recep. even if you have no ground and still be safe. this does comply with the national electrical code

Why is the appliance paint rough in places?

I painted a refrigerator with appliance paint after lightly sanding as instructed. The surface was completely smooth. After painting it with an appliance spray paint there are a half dozen VERY rough - rough patches.

Where can I get another manual for my Magic Bullet appliance? I?

I cannot find the manual for my Magic Bullet appliance and have not used it enough to know how to work everything. So I really need to find another one somewhere. Does anyone know of a number I can call to find out if I can get another one? Thank you.|||The Magic Bullet is an entirely new concept in labor-saving devices. Unlike bulky blenders and unwieldy food processors that most of us only pull out of storage for specific recipes and special occasions, the Magic Bullet is so handy, so versatile and easy to use that you'll put it to work EVERY single day (probably several times a day). Best of all, it saves you time because it does almost any job in the kitchen in 10 seconds or less!

The secret to the Magic Bullet's time-saving efficiency is the specially designed blade and unique bullet-shaped design that automatically circulates food back into the cyclonic cutting zone with so much force and speed that it can do virtually any job in 10 seconds or less.

Using the Magic Bullet Couldn't Be Easier

There are no buttons to press, no complicated manuals to read. Simply place one of the Bullet Cups or Party Mugs on to the High-Torque Power Base and press...it's a snap! With the easy-to-use Magic Bullet, you can make delicious party dips like salsa, guacamole and bean dip, refreshing frozen margaritas and pina coladas, a variety of tantalizing pasta sauces, decadent desserts such as creamy chocolate mousse or frosty milkshakes and more. All with virtually no effort and no clean up. And all in 10 seconds or less.

Using the Magic Bullet is as easy as 1, 2, 3 ...

1. Load the ingredients into the Short Cup, Tall Cup, or Party Mug.

2. Twist on the Cross, or Flat Blade until the blade and cup have a tight seal.

3. Line up the tabs, place the bullet on the Power Base and press down on the cup to turn it on.

Here's how it works: As long as you're holding it down, the Magic Bullet is on. When you want the blades to stop, simply let go.

Or, for hands-free operation: Press down and gently turn the cup clockwise until the tabs lock under the lip of the Power Base. Now the Magic Bullet is in Lock On mode where the motor runs continually. To turn it off, simply twist the cup back counterclockwise and release the cup.

Mastering the Magic Bullet "Mixing" Techniques is a snap!

Lock On Mode is the hands free mode you use to blend foods until they achieve a smooth consistency. This is the technique for preparing creamy dishes like chocolate mousse, smoothies and frozen cocktails.

Here are some video clips that demonstrate the Lock On technique:

Blended Iced Coffee Drink

Whipped Cream

The Pulsing Technique is the one to use when you want chunky, textured dishes such as guacamole, egg salad or bean dip.

The most important thing to remember about "Pulsing" is that as you use one hand to tap down on the top of the cup, you need to use your other hand to apply counter- clockwise pressure to the cup.

Here are some video clips that demonstrate the Pulsing Technique:

What causes batteries to burst/corrode while in an appliance?

We've all had an old toy or flashlight or something that when we opened the battery door, saw that it was full of a burst battery and its corroded "acid."

What causes a battery to burst while in an old toy or appliance?|||Most batteries are fine until they go completely dead. Then they corrode and leak. The chemical balance changes when the batteries go dead and the chemicals then attack the metal case of the battery. They don't burst per se, they just rot through the case and the material leaks out. It does kind of look like they burst. The answer is to remove any batteries from any device you're not going to use for a while. If you put a flashlight in a drawer and don't look at it for a year, the batteries could have died and then leaked. Always remove the batteries. Put them in a plastic bag next to the device if you want to make sure that there are batteries handy if you need to use what ever it is. You can see if they've leaked just by looking at the bag.

How to get the Power of an electrical appliance?

If a wall switch is in the on position but there is no appliance pluged in will it run electricity?

I'm trying to lower my electric and I noticed that a wall switch in an unused room was in the down position. Will it still generate a use-age even though there is no appliance plugged into the corresponding outlet?|||No it will not "use" any electricity. If you're looking to reduce your wattage consumption, try wrapping your water heater and if it's electric, install a timer. All your "surge protectors" use electricity even if you have what ever you have plugged into them, turned off. How many clocks do you have in your house? How many "cordless phones? How many modems do you have? All these pieces of "utilization devices" one by one does amount to anything to be concerned with. However, when you put a "bunch" of them together, over a month's time, you would be surprised on just how much you're paying for "convenience". Anything that has a light on it is using electricity. How about your smoke detectors? Are they hard-wired or battery operated? Do you have outside lights that are on a timer? Timers use electricity. ( W/H timers use it ,too, not as much as a W/H) Just take some time and go sit in each and every room of your house 5-10 minutes. Look around it. You might be surprised on what is on in an "empty" room. Do it again at night. Just many little lights do you see?

Then conduct an experiment: When ever you leave your house and your going to be gone for more than an hour, turn the main breaker off. Does that set off your security system? There's another one that on all the time and you never think about it. All of this is just "Food for thought". Hope it helps.|||No. There must be a complete circuit, first.|||Down position is usually off and no it is not drawing any electricity until you turn it on.Same with anything you plug in there as long as its in the off position.|||no. the only way to reduce your electric bill is to reduce wattage use. your bill is paid by kilowatt hours and each electricity provider has a price to you of cents per kilowatt hours. for instance a 100 watt light globe is on for 10 hours. 10x 100 = 1000 watt hours. divide by 1000 to get kw hrs. and the result is 1 kwhr. if the electric company is charging 10 cents per kwh, you pay 10 cents to use the light for 10 hours.|||No, but as practice I shut off switches that are not being used. Use energy saving appliances where possible. Use compact florescent bulbs where possible.|||No it will not. The circuit is not complete until it runs through some sort of load (lamp, vacuum, etc..)|||nope only when there is something plugged into the wall that is also in the on position. Same is true when you unscrew a light bulb and try to turn that on.

I've had a herbst appliance for one year now and they will be taking it off tomorrow. Does it hurt? Or is it just a weird feeling? I'm kind of scared what should I expect?|||Does not hurt a single bit. The only weird thing about it is the freedom your jaw has once its off. :P

You'll start talking, and will be amazed how far your mouth will move when you say certain words. XD

When a light or other electrical appliance is switched on it causes the TV to flikker.?

When a light or other electrical appliance is switched on it causes the TV to flicker. We also use a digi box, cable modem.

I assume some sort of surge or flux is causing the problem, is there a product on the market that can be placed between the TV and the mains to act as some sort of damping device.

I already have a Trust anti surge device in situ and the problem occurs when this is in situ or not.|||Your question describes what is happening well enough. It is difficult to be certain exactly what is happening, but whenever a circuit carrying current is broken there is a sudden change in current, perhaps a spark too, which radiates electromagnetic energy - radio energy. This would be picked up by the antenna if you are receiving off air programs, and if it is strong enough will interfere with the desired TV signals. The usual solution is to have an outdoor antenna which is further from the interference, and also picks up the desired signal more strongly, while rejecting the interference because of its directional capability. If you have an outdoor antenna it may not be working properly, or you could have a weak signal.

I'm not sure what a digibox is in your location, but it usually means what we call a set top box, that is a digital TV receiver, that connects to your display. Perhaps you have a community antenna system.

The digi box cable signal is a slightly different situation, in that the cable should be shielded from this interference. However the radiated interference could travel into wiring, and get into your system or the cable somehow. It is posssible that proper grounding of the various boxes will help, though I expect these to be grounded through the power point/wall outlet. Antisurge devices could sometimes provide some sort of filtering, but you say that doesn't help. A specific filter may be better, but I dont know much about where to get such a thing in your location.

One other approach to try is a ferrite clamp absorber. This is a ferrite core that clamps around power cables. You have probably seen them on your VGA cable on the computer, and other cables with USB etc. You could try some of them on power cables near where they enter the TV set, digibox etc. Even the cable that provides the set top box with signal itself. You could buy three or four and experiment.

The links below may lead you to a supplier.|||Your power mains is what we would call dirty, everythings not getting 240v constantly, its something like that, you need to look on this website http://www.isoteksystems.com/ its a company that sell powermains cleaners, plugs and what not, if you purchase one of there mains cleaners it should eliminate your flickering problem because your tv will recieve the same amount of electricity constantly.|||Very close to the TV or computer display, if you keep some gadget with electronic circuits, then they will flicker. Keep these gadgets at least a foot away.

How to make my braces stop hurting and has anyone had an appliance in there mouth at the same time too?

I just got them yesterday and they didn't hurt till to day! I also have an appliance at the top of my mouth which makes it hard to swallow has anyone had this and could give me some advice ?!|||Braces only hurt at the beginning when they are put and then a little bit every time they are adjusted. They hurt because your bones are moving. Take pain killers for the pain and try to relax, the pain will subside. If you feel that they are hurting the inside of your gum, there is a wax you can use on top of the metal to protect your gum. Ask your orthodontist for some. About the appliance, its just a matter of getting used to it. I have two permanent ones and at the beginning it was even difficult to talk but now I even forget that I have them on. Keep in mind that after the Otho treatment, the benefits are going to be great!! You will look fabulous!! keep you eye on the goal!!|||i have braces and i ahve had them since february, dont worry the same thing happened to me, they ddint hurt til the enxt day, and i had a volleyball tournament, the best thign to do is eat amshed potatoes and ice creama dn drink milk shakes cuz its ahrd to eat foods cuz of the pain, its gonna hurt for the next few days but you get used to it,a dn when you go back in a few weeks to get it tightened its gonna hurt again then the time after that you will be used to it and it wont hurt. i dont know what an appliance is so i couldnt tell you, if you add detail and tell me about this appliance i could tell you.

also i dont know bout you but ibuprofin and tylenol didnt work for me, it still was painful maybe a lil less but still painful|||I have braces right now and even though i have had them for 9 months and already getting them off next week, I can help you. I went through the same thing it sounds like you did. The day you get them you feel good and everything's wonderful. But the 2nd day you have them is probably the worst day. everything you try to eat is as hard as a rock. so my advice to you is to take an ibuprofen every so often. tylenol did not help me at all but that was just me, everyone is different. Get some rest and you should probably consider going on an applesauce, pudding, jell-O diet for a while..it helps ALOT!!! =] I sure hope I helped you..good luck with your new braces. Look forward to a beautiful smile :D|||Just a couple tips to help you out... always take some tylenol before you go to get your braces tightened. It will really help. Also, you can purchase wax to put on your braces that helps them from rubbing the inside of your mouth, it really helps. You dentist may have some, or you can buy it at a drugstore.|||i have had braces 4 almost 4 years now so hopefully i can help! i cant help you with the appliance but i can help you with the pain. just take ibuprofen or advil evey 4 hours and that should help keep the pain away. or my orthodontist gave me wax to bite down on:) hope i can help and it will go away!|||Take a pain reducer.

If it rubbing you checks and such but some wax on the brackets.|||hey same here. i got an appliance called the frog and it hurts to eat im wondering if that is the same 4 u

Is the orthodontic appliance that brings the lower jaw forwards called a herbst ?

Is there a way to install solar panels for one appliance in my home rather than the whole house?

After getting estimates from several local contractors, I can't justify the cost of taking the entire house solar - especially since we're considering moving in a few years and solar power would price the house out of the market for its size.

In the meantime, though, is there a way to route solar power to one high-use appliance - say our PC or our TV - without fully rewiring the house? This would incur some savings and a lower cost, and we might be able to see some return on investment when we sell the house.|||Not very practical if you ask me. the way the solar system works in a nutshell. Panels turn sunlight into DC electricity, think the battery in your car. then an inverter is installed, which turns the DC into AC, which is what is used in your house. The system feeds your needs when the sun is out, and any excess produced during the day turns your meter backward, and at night you draw from your power company. To do for a single outlet, it would work during the day, but at night or if it got cloudy you would have to move the power cord,to the other outlet hooked to your regular power. If you put solar on your house it might make a great selling point, when you show the new potential owners your electricity bills, depending where you live, it could be close to ZERO for the year.|||Yes you can.

A PC or TV are low power devices and one or the other may actually be able to be powered by PV solar panels for a short periods of time.

You will never see a return on your investment(as things currently stand), and will not be a selling feature for future buyers of your property.

My advice would be to save your money for now and invest on better insulation to reduce energy losses.

In 10 or 15 years, it may be a totally different story, but it is not currently a viable alternative.

Good luck.|||Same way you would with a backup generator, you decide which circuits to move to a different circuit breaker panel and have a transfer switch install so that second panel can be switched between grid power and whatever else you want whether it's from a solar powered inverter or a generator. However, a better approach is simply to get a grid tied system and handle everything in the accounting with the power company.|||You can, but it is probably not worth it. By removing certain circuits off the grid, you would need to provide enough storage (batteries) to provide all of the power you need for it, even after a stretch of bad weather. Batteries need to be maintained and replaced eventually, adding to the cost over the lifetime of the system.

The good news is there are now microinverters for about $250 that convert the DC from each panel into AC right up on the roof. The nice thing about this is there used to be limits to how small of a system you could connect directly to the grid, making a small entry level system impossible. Now that limit is one panel. You can install a 200W panel and a microinverter if that's how small you want to get. However, the output of it would be tiny, barely noticeable in the grand scheme of things, so while you would be generating your own electricity, and offsetting some of your usage, it wouldn' t be much, maybe 20kwh a month. But, if you get 5 of them, now we're up to 1000W, that's not too bad, around 100kwh per month, but still a relatively inexpensive system. You can also get 30% of the installed cost back in a federal tax credit.

http://www.altestore.com/store/Inverters鈥?/a>|||If your interest is in saving money, it's really unlikely that you can do that with a small system, and even with a large system, it would be hard to get your money back if you're moving in a few years. Sorry. Conservation measures like energy efficient lighting and appliances, insulation, attic fan instead of A/C, however, could pay for themselves in that short time.

Voltage converter for electric appliance that's made for China but needs to be used in the US?

I know the electricity voltage in China is 220V and that in US is 110V. I have a small electric appliance that my friend brought for me from China, what sort of voltage converter do I need? So far I've only found 220V to 110V ones on eBay, will those work?|||Note that 110 is equivalent to 120, and 220 equivalent to 240 VAC,

There are only a few cases where a transformer is needed or will work:

Small appliances, like camera, phone, small electronic items, usually will operate at any voltage or frequency worldwide, all you need is a $2 plug adaptor. Check the documentation.

Large appliances that deliver a lot of heat, like hair dryers would require a heavy large transformer. You can buy a new appliance that has "dual voltage capability", ie, a switch on the handle, for $20, so all you need is a plug adaptor. Much cheaper than a transformer.

Some appliances (anything with a motor) will work only on 60Hz, and not at 50Hz, which is what they have in the rest of the world.

What is left? whatever it is, you can convert the voltage from 220-240 to 110-120 volts, BUT, the transformer must have a big enough power rating to handle whatever you plug into it. That means if you have an 800 watt appliance, you need a 1000 watt transformer. Big and heavy.

.|||Some modern "appliances" will accept any input voltage. Others have links or dual- wound transformer primaries, that can be adjusted to work with either voltage.

Some have nothing. The only alternative then is a transformer between voltages, but that transformer has to have a VA or secondary current output rating equal to or greater than the appliance.|||What kinds of appliance and how many watts, read the label ?

You need a step up transformer 110 v into 220 v and the wattage of transformer must bigger than the appliance.

If this appliance is AC motor type,it shall lost some speed or torque even you match its voltage to 220 volts, because the frequency is different.

USA has 240v in house. It locates on dryer and stove wall outlet.

What appliance is my dentist installing?

Today my dentist numbed me up and started drilling into the bone of the roof of my mouth. They screwed in a screw thing. This will be the anchor for my new appliance (woo-hoo). What is this appliance called and what will it be like.|||This may be something called a palatal expander. If your teeth are not in ideal occlusion, this is used to widen the roof of your mouth. If you'd like to compare pictures of your teeth with what I'm talking about, try to google "palatal expander" or "crossbite" and see if that resembles what you have in your mouth.|||The only thing I can think of, is that he installed a mini implant on the roof of your mouth. This will help aid braces in moving your teeth. Now if you don't have braces, I can't think of what appliance that is you're talking about.. sorry.

Can I use any appliance bulb inside my oven?

I have an appliance bulb that says "Good for microwaves, refrigerators and ..." something else, I don't remember. But, I know it did not say ovens. Should it still be safe to use inside the oven? Or, can you only use one that says "Oven Bulb"?

thanks|||It should work, the only downside to not using the proper bulb in an oven is that it will burn out faster. Remember that the filament inside a light bulb is hotter than lava when it is turned on.|||You just want to make sure that it is rated for heat.|||It will work. They don't make and sell stove bulbs.

Is there a kitchen appliance that allows you to steep herbs into liquid?

Is there anything where you can put some herbs into a compartment, fill the rest of the container with water ( or another liquid) and the appliance steeps the herbs (has a filter)? What would be the best way to do this as I don't want the herbs to mix with the actual water.|||You could use any container and then just strain the liquid through a fine strainer or cheesecloth. I have a device sold to make tea. You put the tea leaves in the container, fill with hot water, and steep. When the tea is ready, you place the device over a cup and it releases the liquid from the container. I actually have two of these: one at home and one at work. I bought one through Teavana, the other from some other website. You could try a tea infuser ball, depending on the bulk of the herbs you're trying to steep. You might try looking at tea stores.|||you can wrap the herbs in cheese cloth tie it closed and put it into the water or

a french press or coffee press (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_pres鈥?/a> for this you put the herbs in fill with boiling water and let steep it has a plunger w/screen mesh the will keep the herbs at the bottom of the container|||Tea infuser, look here:

How does it feel to have a tongue thrusting appliance in your mouth?

i've had braces now for a little over a year and have a tongue thrusting problem. i've tried the physical exercises but they dont seem to be working so my dent recommended i think about getting an appliance put in my mouth to help stop the tongue thrusting. i dont know what it looks like or what it is. could someone whose had it or has it now tell me about it?? or even links to pics of ppl with it??|||Hey, here is what it looks like:

How do reduce the electrical energy used by an appliance?

How do reduce the electrical energy used by an appliance?

I'm wondering how I can reduce the electrical energy used by my waffle maker by up to 10% or more. I was thinking maybe to unplug the computer when it is not in use. Is there any other way I can reduce the electrical energy used by my waffle maker?|||1) unplugging the computer will not change the energy used by your waffle maker.

2) if you were to lower the voltage on the waffle maker, it would take longer to cook the waffles, and you'd actually use more energy.

appliances are specifically designed to work the way that they do.

it's not a good idea to try to make them better.

most often, you'll hurt their performance.

if the waffle maker is not warm when not in use, it's probably not drawing any current, in which case, unplugging it won't make any difference. when i was a kid, if it was plugged in, it was hot. and we'd never leave it plugged in. if it has an on/off switch, then turn it off when you're not using it. if it doesn't have a switch, then you should pull the plug. personally, i'm surprised that you use it often enough that you want to dedicate that counter space to it all the time, rather than putting it away.|||you have to use-it less

this means reduce the heat for example

but the cooking results will not be the same!

Can you use different kinds of batteries for one appliance?

I know this may seem like a stupid question, but can you use two different kinds of batteries of the same size for one appliance?

I need to use three AAA batteries and since it's a little uncommon to have them i had to use one Energizer and two Ultra green Rockets and they're either all used up or i can't use different kinds, because it's not turning on.|||yes you can, but it is recommended you change the complete set at the same time.|||You can use batteries of different brand names, so long as there the same type like alkaline. You may want to check to see if they are all alkaline. Although its suggested to have the same brand names just to be safe. You can use those real cheap batteries, as long as they all are those cheapo batteries, those batteries are not alkaline. You can actually mix both types of batteries, alkalines and those cheapos, temporally. But you'll want to replace them within a weak or so, because an acid will build up in the battery compartment, and thats not good. Which Ultra green Rockets sounds like cheapos. Any way they may be dead or maybe the remote or whatever it is, recognizes the difference of the batteries.|||It is not a good policy to mix different brands of the same types of batteries, although most of the time they do work. But what you shouldn't do is to mix zinc chloride batteries with alkaline, lithium or rechargeable.

Does a lead have to be pat tested aswell as the appliance?

When a pat testing company goes out why is it that some of them charge to test the lead on an appliance and some dont? Money making??

Surely the lead will be tested when the appliance is tested anyway wont it?|||Its more for liability reasons and if an appliance has a wire replaced. E.G. say a community centre plugs a kettle to the mains with a new wire that hasn't been PAC tested and the wire has a fault and a kid gets electrocuted then the centre would be liable because they didn't get the wire tested.

How do you find out how many watts it takes to charge/work an appliance?

and what is the difference between input and output? wich one do you use to figure out how many watts it takes to use appliance?|||look at the book it came with or google it|||your q i cannot figure out .but appliances have markings/stickers so you know the draw! input current is input. output current is output????!!|||Use the input ratings. Multiply the voltage in volts by the required current in amperes (divide by 1000 if it's rated in milliamperes) to get the power requirement in watts.

If it's a refrigerator or something similar with a compressor or big motor, the required power at startup will be considerably more, and then the power drawn by the appliance will drop to the rated level.|||watts are watts W= volts X amps

if voltage goes down and resistance stays the same then amps go up

How do you make electic voltage adapt for appliance electricity amps wattage?

I have an electric hot water kettle from Great Britian. I want to use it on American soil. What adapters %26amp; transformers do I need to use in order for the appliance to work properly the way it is supposed to?|||It should work quit well on a 240v outlet. You would need only an adapter to get in to connect with outlet or put a new plug on the appliance. The 50 to 60 cycle difference in a purely resistance item like a hot water kettle will not matter.|||Most appliances over there are 240 volts, and ours are 120. Would cost a lot of money to have a special plug made for a water pot.|||Use the dryer electric outlet. That would be the cheapest solution. Bring an outlet from The UK that fits the plug you have. ~

please help me and answer, i want to save money too .|||Keep moving. Do jumping jacks or something ;D|||What?|||Fire! The best way is to keep body parts as close to you core as possible. Unless you are running around nude, you can try sticking your hear in you shirt, the warmth of you breath will help some. If not the exercise is the best option. Thermal wear is also helpful. You don’t need to “Bundle up.” Thermal wear is designed to keep you warm and help perspiration to escape.|||I'll assume you are talking about staying warm indoors... The best way not to lose heat is to seal all draft areas. You could buy plastic made for windows, that will shrink tight and add alot of cost savings to your heating bill, I use them and let me tell you they do work, and they are only around 10 bucks for a packages that does about 4-6 windows depending on size. Use candles for lighting at night, not only does it create a nice atmosphere but it adds heat to your room. Check and seal all air leaks around doors and windows with caulking. If worst comes to worst, yeah push-ups usually get me warm in the cold but don't do them to the point where you work up a sweat, or else you'll freeze later. just do a enough at regular intervals.

What is an example of a nuclear-powered household appliance?

I have to draw it and I want it to be different from any ordinary project. Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Some examples are: nuclear-powered microwave, refrigerator, toaster.

Yet, other ideas would be better. And also, how would you include the nuclear reactor in your project? Like how would you draw it along with the household appliance?|||You should look into items like pacemakers and satellites that are powered by radioactive decay. You couldn't draw an appliance powered by a nuclear fission or fusion reactor because current technology is so far away from being able to provide that, that there would be no way to draw it other than pure fantasy.

Of course, in a way, all our electric appliances are nuclear powerable because the nuclear reactor power stations operating today make electricity and send it down the grid to power our homes.

This article may be a little complex, but it has some neat pictures and shows how a nuclear powered small device can look and work.

Instead of making electricity, it might be much simpler to make heat. How about a nuclear powered hot water heater? Real simple.

What element is changed to use the same appliance in US and in Europe ?

We can often see the same household appliances in Europe, Asia or America even though the voltage is different.

They don't use a heavy voltage converter, so what element is changed in the appliance in order to use it anywhere ?

Thanks|||As the supply voltage differ at thes places the the voltage has to be stepped up or down depending on the supply voltage.

It is done by a step up or down transformer or by smps (switch mode power supply)

In some appliances it is built inside and the selection of voltages is done by a switch.

It is a saftey issue or can it harm the appliance?|||It will not harm the appliance. Nor is there a safety issue in unplugging with the appliance switched on.

There could be a safety issue if you later plug the appliance back in with it switched in - as it may start up unexpectedly.

%26gt; An arc also takes place in the appliance switch

%26gt; contacts and / or the wall socket switch , the arc

%26gt; is caused by " back emf"

Mmm.. if the device is such as to generate an arc that way (usually if it has a largish motor in it) it should have a snubber to quench the back EMF and so suppress the arc at the switch. It won't help if you break the circuit at the outlet, though.|||When an appliance is on and drawing current then when its plug is just pulled out then a little arc can take place on both the appliance plug and the mains socket, it takes a long long time before the arc damages the socket contacts, An arc also takes place in the appliance switch contacts and / or the wall socket switch , the arc is caused by " back emf " , it is not a safety issue .

Cheers Pete

Edit " To the guy below ! even a 100watt lamp creates a spark when unplugged or switched , we are not talking power stations where contacts are imersed in oil !!! TVs have a couple of 1mfd caps to stop the contacts in the on / off switch pitting or arcing !

Cheers Pete|||Depends. Most appliances today have a microprocessor and run an OS. When you turn it off, you give it time to clean up memory and do a proper shutdown. When you unplug it, you bypass all that, which long term may be harmful - especially if the device has moving parts, like a hard drive.|||Yeah, especially in air conditioners and televisions. They say it will harm the appliance. I did it once with my LCD TV, I just unplugged it without turning off, I've done it for like 2-3 times and then, when I brought it to the service center, they said it's a technical failure caused by unplugging the appliance without turning off.

I pay about 8 cents per. so to run a 100W appliance for 1 hr would cost me .8 cents, 10 hours would cost me 8 cents, etc.|||well you have to find out what your being charged. it should be in terms of kilowatts per hour. then you find what voltage and amps go into this appliance. then multiply volts by amps. this gives you watts. next convert watts to kilowatts by moving the decimal. multiply kilowatts by the estimated time it is running per month. finally multiply that number by what your being charged per kilowatt hour.
