How to get the Power of an electrical appliance?

The first part of my textbook states that the power of an electrical appliance is concluded by energy used over the time taken. However, my notes(the ones I took down while actually listening to my teacher) say voltage x current = power. Which one is it|||They're both the same thing, really.

Power is both work per time and voltage times current. Both give you units of Joules per seconds, which are Watts. Think of it as the energy used or transferred over time.
